Good Habit of Leaving Work on Time

Starting and ending work is something every employee wants to manage themselves. In recent years, flexible working hours have been promoted, but administrative challenges persist—especially when impromptu meetings can’t gather everyone, requiring careful planning. Yet, how can daily operations always follow a perfect plan?
Having been in the workforce for years, I consider myself a bit of a workaholic. The satisfaction from work is immense—achieving what others couldn’t, closing deals others couldn’t finalize—it’s incredibly fulfilling! Back in the days before home computers (last century!), I’d stay at the office until midnight, only to have my boss ask why I was so dedicated.
Later, as a Country Manager, I set a firm rule: office closes at 5:30 PM sharp. I needed to catch a 40-minute bus ride home before 5:45 PM, or I’d waste 90 minutes and miss time with my kids. Those days are still fondly remembered. My team was happy, willingly speeding up work, cutting lunch to 15 minutes, aiming to leave at 5:30 PM daily.
To me, work-life balance is more like work-life integration. I find joy in work and draw inspiration for work from life. This is how a workaholic finds balance. It’s fine as long as you find your rhythm and pace!
In today’s tough market, companies hope employees go the extra mile, while employees hope for more support and understanding. Let’s find the right approach together to create a great employee experience and navigate challenges as a team!
